SK Planet’s Smart Wallet Issues More Than 20 Million Mobile Cards

Seoul, Korea, January 7, 2013 – SK Planet today announced that more than 20 million membership cards have been
issued via its Smart Wallet.  
 
Smart Wallet offers a mobile alternative to carrying around several plastics which can be quite cumbersome. Membership
cards can be easily downloaded and managed via the mobile app to keep customer’s wallets light and cards easy to use.
The Smart Wallet app provides access to a wide range of membership programs for dining, movies, shopping, airline
mileage and beauty services. In April 2012, just two years after its launch, 10 million membership cards were downloaded.
Only eight months have passed since, and 20 million downloads have been made. At this rate, the 50 million milestone may
be within reach by the end of this year.
 
Assuming an issuing cost of 200 won per plastic card, SK Planet’s partners have collectively benefited from reduction in
expenses of at least KRW 4 billion. Notably in last December, more than 200 thousand cards were downloaded per day,
which means our partners were able to attract that many customers during the holiday shopping season at minimal cost.
 
Smart Wallet also issues mobile vouchers and coupons and delivers membership offerings on behalf of small and medium
merchants replacing their paper-based coupons. This translates to big savings on environmental cost and resource use,
and this very tangible potential has given Smart Wallet a green reputation.  
 
On average each Smart Wallet user has five mobile credit and membership cards. The service is most popular with young
consumers in their 20s and 30s who are familiar with earning and using loyalty points. Further improvements to make
the service more user-friendly, expanding the coverage of membership programs, and support for new payment methods--such
as coupons, vouchers and micropayments--have helped more than double the subscribers. SK Planet forecasts that the
number of users will exceed 10 million by the first half of this year.
 
Kah Jong-Hyun, Senior Vice President and Head of Core Platform Management Division, explained, “Our latest milestone
of 20 million mobile card downloads suggests that the commercial transactions by individuals will trend away from the
plastic to mobile. We will not remain complacent with what we have achieved thus far and continue innovating to maximize
convenience for our customers.
 
SK Planet’s Smart Wallet currently has 7.5 million users and is indisputably the largest mobile wallet service in Korea.
It supports the issuance and management of membership cards and various mobile payment methods such as coupons,
gifticons, credit cards and vouchers. Smart Wallet is partner to more than 50 companies and over 200 brands, including
big names like OK Cashbag, SPC Happy Point, CJ ONE, Lotte Members, Korean Air Skypass, Amorepacific Beauty Point
and Kyobo, and delivers membership services in more than 800,000 shops across the country.
 
Smart Wallet is accessible on Android and iOS (iphone and ipad) smartphones regardless of the preferred carrier.
