Seoul, Korea, March 26, 2013—SK Planet announced today that it has launched n11.com (numara onbir, www.n11.com),
an online marketplace with Turkey’s Dogus Group, signaling a full-fledged entry into the Turkish e-commerce market.
The name ‘n11’ which stands for the Turkish phrase ‘numara onbir’ or ‘number 11’, was derived from the name of
SK Planet’s online marketplace 11 St to reflect the company’s commitment to delivering online shopping services tailored
to the Turkish market, with its local partner, based on the extensive operational know-how and the e-commerce platform of 11 St.
As part of its efforts to launch an e-commerce online marketplace optimized for the Turkish market, SK Planet signed
a memorandum of understanding with Dogus Group for cooperation in the new internet business in January 2012 before
establishing Dogus Planet five months later in June 2012.
Dogus Planet is a 50-50 joint venture company established by SK Planet and Dogus Group. The company specializing
in e-commerce is headed by Nak Kyun Chong and has roughly 150 local employees.
Turkey’s e-commerce market reached USD 17 billion in 2012 and its compound annual growth rate (CAGR) is forecasted
at 16% from 2012 to 2018.
Current population of Turkey stands at approximately 79 million, of which 50% have access to the internet. As 22% of
the internet populations have used e-commerce at least once, e-commerce penetration is expected to grow rapidly.
Moreover, SK Planet explains that it has a positive outlook for the Turkey’s future e-commerce market as the country has
a typical bell-shaped distribution of population with the share of population aged 34 and under representing 60% of the total.
Some 2 million products are currently available for sale on n11.com in the categories of Fashion & Cosmetics, Electronics,
Home & Living, Sports & Outdoors, Automotive & Accessories, Culture & Game and Travel, with plans for further expansion
of product line and merchants.
Dogus Planet plans to establish a strong and mutually beneficial e-commerce ecosystem which is a win-win proposition
for all those involved—the marketplace operator, participating merchants and customers. Its seller support service will include
diverse sales promotion programs and n11.com Studio in which merchants will have no-charge access to training/consulting
and product photography.
Moreover, for the first time in the Turkey’s online marketplace industry, n11.com will operate a 24-hour customer service center
to provide quality and timely services. It also plans offer diverse coupon services and customer rewards programs with an aim
to deliver a new shopping experience built on trust and customer convenience.
“Turkey’s market has high growth potential supported by robust logistics and banking payment infrastructure required for
e-commerce business and on top of that, it shares a similar cultural background with Korea,” said Nak Kyun Chong, CEO
of Dogus Planet. “SK Planet will transfer the operational know-how of 11 St to n11.com to shortcut the process of trial and error
and deliver shopping services optimized for the Turkish market.”
