Seoul, Korea, April 3, 2013—SK Planet announced today that it commercialized an automobile diagnostic platform
and service in Hubei Provence, China under partnership with China Telecom, a Chinese state-owned telecommunication
company, and Tian You Xing, a Chinese operator of commercial vehicle LED advertising.
The vehicle diagnostic platform, the first of its kind in China, offers five different services through a wireless diagnostic
device attached to cars. Users can enjoy many services—including predictive maintenance through vehicle data monitoring,
real-time problem detection, component replacement alert, recording of detailed driving data, and green driving guide—via
their smartphones.
SK Planet has built a car diagnostic platform optimally localized to the Chinese market so as to provide diagnostic services
in full swing. For instance, the company greatly expanded the number of vehicle brands that are compatible with its wireless
diagnostic device, while focusing on tailoring its smartphone application and enterprise customer management web service
to the needs of the Chinese customers. In addition, the platform's data analytics center and diagnostic server has been
designed to reflect SK Planet's extensive technological expertise and service knowhow accumulated in the Korean market.
SK Planet will first provide its wireless diagnostic device through Tian You Xing, which plans to expand sales to Chinese
mobile carriers including China Telecom in Hubei Province, insurers and car distributors. Tian You Xing, preparing for listing
on the mainland stock market, is in charge of operating LED advertising for around 30,000 taxis in Hubei Province under
a ten-year exclusive contract with the Wuhan Municipal Government.
China Telecom will today hold an event to launch its new product bundled with SK Planet's vehicle diagnostic service for new
smartphone subscribers, and plans to engage in aggressive marketing activities including promotional events and TV ads
to promote the service.
"Building on our extensive technological expertise and knowhow acquired by operating automobile telematics service in the
Korean market, we have now launched an innovative automobile diagnostic platform to deliver optimized service to Chinese
customers," said Kim Jang-uk, Senior Vice President and Head of LBS Business Division of SK Planet. "We will continue to
make efforts to establish a unique and leading traffic information platform, the quality of which matches that of T Map, in the
Chinese market by creating a solid basis for location-based services (LBS)."
Meanwhile, SK Planet is focusing on establishing a bridgehead to enter into the Chinese LBS market. In particular, it is
striving to secure maps and POI (Point of Interest) information through partnerships with local companies including map
providers, while analyzing big data collected via its automobile diagnostic platform and driving information owned by Tian
You Xing. Moreover, SK Planet and SK Telecom is partnering with China Mobile, the largest mobile carrier in China, to
collect RTTI (Real Time Traffic Information) and conduct performance tests.
