Seoul, Korea, March 30, 2014—SK Planet announced today that the company’s educational arm T Academy marked its fourth anniversary on March 29 by surpassing 60,000 cumulative graduates.

T Academy was established in 2010 by SK Planet’s Open Innovation Center (http://oic.skplanet.com) to uncover and develop mobile experts required in the smartphone age. Its program offerings not only include development-focused courses but also include design and planning courses designed to teach the skills that are needed to commercialize applications.

For the past four years, SK Planet has been offering a diverse range of programs free of charge through T Academy. For example, its expert courses are aimed at turning participants into mobile developers, planners and designers. Recently, it added a new component to its program. The T Academy Experts 2.0 is comprised of commercialization project teams and is designed to support participants to acquire the skills and knowledge needed to succeed as a venture enterprise in the mobile industry.

As of March 29, T Academy has produced a combined total of 60,245 graduates and completed commercialization of 133 applications. Among program graduates, 79.4% found jobs or started their own business.

SK Planet’s startup support programs are reaping tangible results. Yestudio founded by Choi Won-man, a graduate of the T Academy expert training course has successfully raised funds from Silicon Valley individual and institutional investors who took notice of the startup’s performance in T Academy as well as its business ideas. YDEA headed by Kang Ha-neul also raised KRW 380 million in venture capital as it showed its potential for global expansion.

In addition, SK Planet held Tryangle Talk Concert in seven different regions including Seoul, Busan, Daegu and Gwangju, giving 2,000 developers opportunities to network with and pitch their business ideas to successful startup CEOs, venture capitalists and angel investors. Tryangle Talk Concert is a program designed to develop entrepreneurial mindset and share industry insights and know-how with startups and developers across the nation.

SK Planet plans to launch a new program under the name of Tryangle Insider Program on June and provide a comprehensive support that ranges from modification and verification of business plans to development of prototype. Seminars and special courses/lectures that blend online learning and offline mentoring will be offered to accelerate startup success.

“T Academy, which was founded to accelerate startup growth and foster the nation’s IT ecosystem, has established its position as Korea’s leading institute for mobile education,” said Jang Dong-hyun, SK Planet’s Chief Operation Officer. “SK Planet will continue to catalyze the formation of startups in Korea and support their efforts to take their business global.”
