Seoul, Korea, June 2, 2014—SK Planet today announced the launch of Next Commerce that is set to change
the dynamics of the offline commerce market with mobile technology.
 
SK Planet today unveiled ‘Next Commerce’ and its global expansion plan while launching its new integrated
commerce brand ‘Syrup’
during a press conference at the NineTree Convention Center, downtown, Seoul.
 
Next Commerce to build a new paradigm in the offline commerce market
 
“Commerce revolution is under way and mobile is leading the charge. With the traditional one-way approach,
services can no longer satisfy consumers,” said Jinwoo So, CEO of SK Planet at the press meeting in Seoul.
“The wall between online and offline commerce is crumbling as mobile connects the two. This trend is
opening up new opportunities in the offline commerce market and we took notice in the change.”
 
SK Planet said that Korea’s online commerce market is worth around KRW 230 trillion and more than 1.7 million
stores are its potential partners. The company plans to innovate the offline commerce market with mobile

technology and build a new paradigm in the market.  
 
The two core values of Next Commerce are to ‘support smart shopping’ and ‘deliver integrated marketing
solution to retailers.
By combining its core assets and diverse commerce platforms, SK Planet plans to evolve
into integrated commerce platform and make early market entry.
 
SK Planet has an unparalleled operational knowhow in both online and offline spheres as proven by its
OK Cashbag, a cash reward and discount service network with over 37 million members and 50,000 partnering
merchants; Smart Wallet, a mobile wallet application that has 12 million subscribers and over 400 partnering
brands; and 11st whose mobile transaction volume is about to hit the milestone of KRW 1 trillion.   
 
Based on this leadership, SK Planet plans to ▲ complete smart shopping service by combining OK Cashbag,
Smart Wallet and Gifticon

Launch a new smart shopping service ‘Syrup’ to accelerate Next Commerce  
 
Moreover, SK Planet unveiled new commerce brand Syrup that integrates the company’s three existing services;
Smart Wallet, a mobile wallet service; OK Cashbag, an integrated mileage service; and Gifticon, a mobile
voucher service. 
 
Smart Wallet is renamed ‘Syrup’, OK Cashbag and Gifticon as ‘OK CASHBAG by Syrup’ and ‘Syrup Gifticon’.
And a new marketing platform for partnering merchants under the brand name ‘Syrup Store’ is added to complete
Syrup.
 
Syrup picks the right coupons and promotions and offers them in the right place at the right time, saving
customers time and energy of tracking coupons and deals. It is a customer-oriented commerce service that is
aimed at maximizing economic benefits to its customers. To deliver the service, SK Planet adopted new
IT technologies such as NFC, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and Geo-fencing which uses the global positioning
system (GPS) to define geographical boundaries.

 
SK Planet plans to set up around 200 virtual zones at core business districts nationwide. Geo-fencing will
allow customers entering the zone to receive useful shopping information from nearby shops recommended by syrup.
In addition, with BLE technology, customers will have the ability to receive relevant nearby information such as local
deals and promotions from retailers and coupons at local merchants, while sharing loyalty points with friends
and family members. 
 
Syrup analyzes customer’s response over discount benefits and redemption patterns to offer customized coupons.
Moreover, by leveraging location-based technology, it informs users on locations where they can redeem their coupons,
while sending expiration date alerts to let customers know when their coupons are about to expire.
 
Building an ecosystem that satisfies both retailers and customers with differentiated value
 
Syrup Store offers marketing solutions that can be utilized at 80,000 partner stores through in-store POS system,
PC, smartphone and more.  
 
Along with membership issuance, loyalty point collection and redemption, Syrup Store features ‘smart flyer’ function
that allows retailers to send mobile advertisements and coupons to diverse customers. As opposed to randomly
distributed offline advertisements, Syrup Store enables merchants to conduct marketing based on accurate statistics
such as customer visit frequency, product preferences and purchasing patterns, thereby maximizing marketing
efficiency while lowering cost.  
 
Under partnership with Syrup, small-and medium-sized merchants can also manage frequent customers through
online and mobile medium. Shop owners can increase coupon redemption rates by offering the right discount
benefit at the right moment, while improving customer intimacy. SK Planet plans to hold diverse promotions to
encourage micro enterprises to experience Syrup Store’s smart marketing solutions.
 
Simultaneous entry into Korea and US markets to seize global commerce leadership and plans to conduct
beta testing in the US market early June

 
“Just as Amazon became the global leader in e-commerce by revolutionizing the industry, SK Planet aims to
become the global ‘Next Commerce’ leader in the offline market by driving mobile innovation that will eventually
break down the walls which separate the online and offline worlds,” said Jinwoo So, CEO of SK Planet.
 
Building on its leadership at home, SK Planet will simultaneously offer Next Commerce in the US market.
Its strategy is to optimize Syrup for the US Market and gradually expand into different regions, while innovating
its services.
 
As a first step towards global expansion, SK Planet will conduct beta testing of the US service early this month
in Berkeley, California. After test results are reflected, commercialized service will be launched in October.
The company said that in order to swiftly secure competitive edge, it plans to seek partnerships with local operators.

June 2nd on T Store and Google Play regardless of the preferred mobile network carrier.
