Seoul, Korea, May 13, 2015
— SK Planet’s Syrup (www.syrup.co.kr) announced the launch of ticketless entrance service, which eliminates the need to get paper tickets issued where they are generally required.

Syrup, which is Korea’s largest mobile wallet provider with an estimated 14 million users, has recently formed a partnership with the multiplex cinema chain Megabox (www.megabox.co.kr) to make ticket purchases made via its website or app to be confirmed on Syrup in the form of a mobile ticket.

When Megabox members download Megabox membership on Syrup, the user’s ticketing information will be automatically stored in Syrup ticket confirmation page in the form of mobile tickets, eliminating the need to print at home or collect tickets from the theater kiosk. At the theater, users can go directly to the ticket podium and show mobile tickets on their mobile device.

Syrup plans to expand the ticketless entrance service to a wider range of establishments such as movie theaters, baseball stadiums, theme parks, hotels, and resorts. Partnership on mobile tickets for Incheon SK Happy Dream Park, home to SK Wyverns and resort stay vouchers for Phoenix Park is slated to kick off during the first half of this year. The partnership is expected to go beyond mobile tickets and expand to cover a wider range of services.

The latest initiative is an effort to introduce greater diversity to the existing service offerings which has consisted largely of membership, coupons and payment (micropayment and reloadable vouchers). Through these initiatives, Syrup aims to deliver maximum economic benefits through smartphone-enabled services by minimizing the time and efforts spent by customers. Moreover, Syrup envisions itself as a true O2O (Online to Offline) provider that makes convenience more accessible to customers in their daily lives.

SK Planet’s Syrup is partner to over 400 brands, offering customers access to a complete line-up of membership programs that cover shopping, leisure, dining, air travel and beauty service as well as performing arts. The partnership is not confined to collection and redemption of membership points. As Syrup incorporates Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and Geofencing technology, Syrup app users visiting partnering stores can receive mobile flyers and coupons, while being prompted with special offers and promotions.

In order to deliver the service, SK Planet has set up BLE service zones not only in major shopping malls, franchise convenient stores, and coffee houses but also in 14 major shopping districts — nine in Seoul region including Hongdai, Gangnam, Myungdong, Konkuk University and Daehangno, and five in non-Seoul regions. Syrup users will receive special offers and benefits through BLE beacons installed at stores located in these shopping districts.
